Low-cost female condom popular in Britain

LONDON, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- A new latex female condom that women wear and control has received a positive response in Britain, reports an online condom retailer.

The VA worn-of-women, known as wow condom, has a flexible V-frame with an inner sponge that holds the pouch in place and has a 97 percent user satisfaction rating, Britishcondoms.co.uk reports.

The online retailer of condoms says it considers the VA the finest protection of any condom available. The VA women's condom has been sold online in England since October. It costs about as much as a male condom, the Web site says.

"The response from women in the U.K. buying and sampling the condom for the first time affirms results from the 2007 clinical study data of 200 couples that found a 97 percent satisfaction rating from men and women in actual use," officials at Britishcondoms.co.uk say in a statement.

The low-cost/high user satisfaction female condom makes it suitable for social distribution in public health clinics in Europe, Africa and Asia, the Web site reported.

"The national government of Portugal has purchased and distributed the VA in their nationwide clinics," Britishcondoms.co.uk reported.
