Lil' Kim begins prison term in Philly

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Rapper Lil' Kim reported to a federal detention center in Philadelphia Monday to start serving her sentence for lying to a grand jury.

Kimberly Jones, 30, was sentenced to a year and a day in prison and fined $50,000 for lying to a federal grand jury investigating a 2001 shooting outside a New York radio station.

Security video showed the rapper standing beside her bodyguard outside the radio station -- after she told the grand jury he was not present at the scene.

The New York Post Monday said federal prison officials decided Friday Jones should serve out her term at the 11-story, 628-cell urban facility.

Sources told the Post it was expected she would be sent to a minimum- or low-security federal camp.

Instead, the rapper will spend the bulk of her time locked in an 80-square-foot cell with an hour of recreation per day in a larger caged-in area, the newspaper said.
