LSU hires Les Miles

BATON ROUGE, La., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Les Miles is the new football coach at Louisiana State University, Athletic Director Skip Bertman announced Monday.

Miles, coach at Oklahoma State the past four years, succeeds Nick Saban, who went to the NFL's Miami Dolphins.

The 51-year-old Miles, a former assistant on the staffs at Michigan, Colorado, Oklahoma State and the Dallas Cowboys, was named Big 12 Coach of the Year in 2002.

Miles coached Oklahoma State to three straight post-season games, compiling an overall record of 28-21. He was the first OSU coach to lead the Cowboys to wins over Nebraska and Oklahoma in the same season.
