Inventor taking cue from 'Jetsons'

VANCOUVER, Wash., June 7 (UPI) -- U.S. inventor Jim Milner says he is trying to create the AirCar, akin to the futuristic cartoon vehicle from the "The Jetsons" with its flying capabilities.

The 65-year-old Oregon native said he wants to create a working prototype of the AirCar, which he says should drive on roads and soar through skies, within the next three years, the Vancouver (Wash.) Columbian reported Saturday.

"I've wanted to build a flying car for 30 years," Milner said of his as-yet-unrealized engineering feat.

Milner also is working on a tad more practical invention, the ElectriCar, a hybrid vehicle that runs on both gasoline and electricity.

The former pilot, who has no noted inventions to his name, said while his AirCar is a personal flight of fancy, the ElectriCar could have greater long-term benefits for humanity.

"The flying car will change the world for one-tenth of 1 percent of the people," he told the Columbian. "But the electric car can change it for 10 percent of the people."
