27 tons of Just BARE chicken recalled for possible contaminants

WASHINGTON, June 19 (UPI) -- GNP is recalling approximately 27 tons of chicken products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Saturday.

The Just BARE chicken, with the number "P-322" inside the USDA mark of inspection, were produced between June 6 and June 9 by the Minnesota company and distributed nationally.

The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service categorized the recall of the 55,608 pounds of chicken products as "high," the most serious level applied by the agency.

Only one of the products -- Just BARE Chicken -- being recalled is sold in grocery stores, the rest are sold through foodservice and institutional outlets. The USDA said consumers with Just BARE Whole Chicken (UPC 024105594057), sold in 4-pound poly-bags, with a use-by date stamp of 6/26/16 should throw away the product. No other Just BARE whole chicken size, tray pack or deli products are affected.

No confirmed reports of adverse reactions have been reported.

The problem was discovered when an establishment notified the FSIS that sand and black soil were found in some of their products. The company and law enforcement are investigating.
