HYATTSVILLE, Md., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Nearly 80 percent of U.S. office-based doctors used some type of electronic health record for patients in 2013, up from 18 percent in 2001, officials say.
Chun-Ju Hsiao and Esther Hing of the National Center for Health Statistics -- part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- found in 2013, 48 percent of office-based physicians reported having a system that met the criteria for a basic system, up from 11 percent in 2006. The percentage of physicians with basic systems by state ranged from 21 percent in New Jersey to 83 percent in North Dakota, the report said.
In 2013, the percentage of physicians using any type of EHR system ranged from 66 percent in New Jersey to 94 percent in Minnesota, the report said.
