Xtreme Eating Awards for fattening food

WASHINGTON, July 20 (UPI) -- Denny's Fried Cheese Melt -- fried mozzarella sticks and cheese grilled between sourdough bread -- tops the Xtreme Eating Awards of a U.S. non-profit group.

Bonnie Liebman, nutrition director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest in Washington, says the Denny's Fried Cheese Melt of "four fried mozzarella sticks and melted American cheese grilled between two slices of sourdough bread," with its side of French fries and marinara sauce, has 1,260 calories, 21 grams of saturated fat -- a full day's worth -- and 3,010 mg of sodium, or two days' worth.


The Cheesecake Factory Farmhouse Cheeseburger "topped with grilled smoked pork belly cheddar cheese, onions, lettuce, tomato, mayo and a fried egg," boasts 1,530 calories and 36 grams of saturated fat topped with 3,210 milligrams of sodium. French fries add 460 calories and 1,460 mg of sodium, Liebman says.

Cold Stone Creamery's PB&C Shake is a 24-ounce size shake of peanut butter, chocolate ice cream and milk that has a day's calories -- 2,010 -- and three and a half days' worth of saturated fat, 68 grams.

Applebee's Provolone-Stuffed Meatballs With Fettuccine, with a piece of garlic bread, four cups of pasta, two sauces, and cheese-injected meatballs deliver 1,520 calories.


The Cheesecake Factory Ultimate Red Velvet Cake Cheesecake includes a slice of red velvet cake, topped with a layer of cheesecake, topped by another layer of red velvet cake and topped with another layer of cheesecake. This is topped with cream cheese frosting, chocolate shavings and whipped cream for 1,540 calories and 59 grams of saturated fat.
