BEIJING, April 4 (UPI) -- China, concerned about the potential spread of avian flu, has banned poultry products imported from a province in the Netherlands, officials said Sunday.
The ban invoked Saturday affects poultry products from the Zeeland province where an outbreak of H7N1 bird flu virus was reported March 22, China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported.
China's quarantine watchdog agency and Agriculture Ministry said any poultry or poultry products mailed to the country or carried by tourists from the Netherlands will be returned or destroyed.
Any poultry or poultry products originating in the Netherlands found on ships, planes or trains will be sealed, a statement on the agency's Web site said.
The imports ban came into effect beginning Saturday, it said.
