MANHATTAN, Kan., Dec. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. researchers say college students may not like a movie with sexual content -- if they watch it with their parents.
Researchers at Kansas State University in Manhattan say among the factors affecting movie-watching enjoyment is one's movie-watching companions.
The study, published in Applied Cognitive Psychology, indicates companions -- including parents or a first date -- help determine how much viewers enjoy a particular film.
"Although watching a comedy with a lot of sexual banter and raunchy language might normally elicit amusement and general positive affect in many young adults, these responses may be overridden by concern over the presence of young children as co-viewers," study lead author Richard Harris says in a statement.
Harris and colleagues asked over 335 undergraduates at a large Midwestern university 11 questions related to past movie-viewing experiences. In part two of the study, the researchers noted how students viewing movies responded to a high level of discomfort.
