PRINCETON, N.J., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Sixty-two percent U.S. adults rate the quality of their healthcare as excellent or good -- four percentage points higher than last year, a survey indicates.
Gallup's annual Health and Healthcare poll, conducted Nov. 4-7, indicates the 39 percent of Americans who rate healthcare coverage as excellent or good is essentially the same percentage as last year at 38 percent, but it is nearly double the 2005 percentage of 21 percent.
The increase in positive ratings occurred mostly beginning in 2008, when U.S. healthcare was rated as excellent by 26 percent. It increased to 38 percent in 2009, when Democrats in Congress pushed legislation to expand healthcare coverage, Gallup officials say.
However, 76 percent say they are dissatisfied with the total cost of U.S. healthcare, while 23 percent say they are satisfied.
The random telephone poll, of 1,021 U.S. adults has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
