Active adults likely to have joint pain

LONDON, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Britain's soccer star David Beckham is not the only one hampered by joint problems -- a survey found 64 percent of active adults less than 45 had joint pain.

The LitoZin Joint Health Sports Survey of 500 men and women in Britain also found 64 percent of active adults -- who undertook 10 hours or more of light exercise a month -- experienced joint pain with the figure rising to 74 percent for the active adults over age 45. In fact, incidence of joint pain and joint injury was significantly less in the sedentary over age 45, who lived a less than active lifestyle.

Golf, racquet sports and running were more likely to cause joint injury, but rugby came out on top when it comes to joint pain with 76 percent of amateur rugby enthusiasts suffering, the survey said.

Sixty-eight percent of all active respondents who took part in the survey had

suffered from joint pain at some point in their lives -- the highest incidence occurred in the 25 to 34 age group.
