Japan approves Boston Scientific's stent

NATICK, Mass., April 3 (UPI) -- Boston Scientific said Tuesday the Japanese government approved its TAXUS Express2 stent for use in the country.

The company, which received the approval from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, said it plans to launch the TAXUS Express2 paclitaxel-eluting coronary stent system after reimbursement approval is granted.

"The approval of the TAXUS Express2 stent is an important event for the treatment of cardiovascular disease in Japan," said Jim Tobin, Boston Scientific's president and CEO.

"We are pleased to provide Japanese physicians with this proven technology, which will help improve the quality of life for so many patients," Tobin added.
