Dec. 19 (UPI) -- A Missouri man known as the "Hacky Sack guy" set a Guinness World Record for traveling 16,581 feet while controlling a footbag.

Derrick Fogle, 55, known as the "Hacky Sack guy" of Missouri University's Speakers Circle, said on Twitter that Guinness representatives at the 2018 U.S. Open Footbag Championships in Las Vegas awarded him the record for farthest distance traveled while controlling a footbag.

Fogle said he kept his footbag -- more commonly known by the brand name Hacky Sack -- in the air while running a distance of 16,581 feet, beating the minimum required by Guinness to create the new record.

Fogle, who was inducted into the Footbag Hall of Fame in 2005, said he took up footbagging when he was 17 at a party with his older brother.

"It was this unique experience to me that people were so accepting of me being in this physical activity regardless of how good I was," Fogle told the Columbia Missourian.
