Gal Gadot on making 'Wonder Woman:' 'We left cynicism aside'

May 29 (UPI) -- Israeli actress Gal Gadot says she hopes people who see her new movie Wonder Woman will leave theaters feeling inspired.

"We left cynicism aside. We went back to simple values ... that are very valuable and relevant, especially nowadays," Gadot said during an AOL Build panel discussion about the film May 23 in New York. "Love and compassion and acceptance and justice and truth and peace. I hope that this movie will make people look inside and be better. Be good."

The 32-year-old actress said the pre-release attention her superheroine flick is getting "is a lot to take in."

"It felt like one, big, happy family, like we were in this commune of people who showed up to work and it didn't feel like work," she recalled. "We really enjoyed working together, working on this character, bringing her back to life and we kept on saying at times: 'Wow! This is going to be amazing!' 'Wow! We can't wait for people to see it!' 'Wow! We can't wait to share it with everyone.' And I think just from the responses and the feedback that we've gotten so far, it's super overwhelming. I'm so grateful. It almost feels like we've done even a bigger thing than we had expected that we'd end up doing, even though we gave it everything. So, so far, it feels great. But it's a lot to take in."

Co-starring Connie Nielsen and Chris Pine, Wonder Woman is to open in U.S. theaters Friday.
