Finland orders Saab's light anti-tank system

Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Finnish Defense Forces are exercising a 2015 contract option with Saab Defense to order additional next-generation light anti-tank weapon systems.

Saab said the weapon system, used by Finland since 2007, will be delivered this year.

"The interest for our NLAW system has increased significantly in recent years," Görgen Johansson, head of Saab's Dynamics business, said in a press release. "This order is a strong proof of this and we look forward to deliver a high-capability weapon system to the Finnish Defence Forces.

"NLAW provides the single soldier with a true anti-tank capability, previously not available on the battlefield."

NLAW is a line-of-sight shoulder-fired weapon system for use against armored vehicles and non-armored targets. During a recently military exercise in Sweden, the NLAW system was used by both Swedish and Finnish forces.

Contract details, including its monetary value, were not disclosed by Saab.
