MOUNT HOLLY, N.J., Oct. 19 (UPI) -- A New Jersey woman who fed her brother-in-law a drink laced with antifreeze and watched him die was sentenced Friday to 20 years.
Maryann Neabor, a former emergency medical technician, was convicted in July of aggravated manslaughter. She could have received a sentence as short as 10 years or as long as 30, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Neabor confessed to state police she made a deadly smoothie for Jonathan Neabor, blending fruit with antifreeze. But she said at the time she was not trying to kill him, only to make him sick.
She later repudiated the confession, claiming she made it because her lawyer had told her that her children could be arrested if she did not tell police she was responsible.
Neabor, a resident of Shamong, taught at Camden County College, where her subject matter included poisons and antidotes.
