'Anora,' 'Conclave,' 'Shogun,' 'Penguin,' 'Baby Reindeer' win Critics Choice Awards

Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Anora was declared the Best Picture of 2024 at the Critics Choice Awards gala at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., on Friday.

The cast of Conclave, which included Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci and Isabella Rossellini, won the prize for Best Acting Ensemble and the drama also scored the award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Adrien Brody earned the award for Best Actor in a Film for The Brutalist and Demi Moore landed the Best Actress in a Film statuette for The Substance, which also won for Best Original Screenplay.

Zoe Saldana won Best Supporting Actress in a Film for Emilia Perez, which also won for Best Foreign Language Movie.

Kieran Culkin won for Best Supporting Actor in a Film for A Real Pain, while The Wild Robot was named Best Animated Feature.

On the TV side, Baby Reindeer was deemed Best Limited Series and its star Jessica Gunning scored the Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series prize.

Penguin co-stars Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti were voted Best Actor and Actress in a Limited Series, while Liev Schreiber picked up the trophy for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for A Perfect Couple.

Shogun was declared Best Drama Series and cast-mates Hiroyuki Sanada, Moeka Hoshi and Tadanobu Asano earned the honors for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Kathy Bates took home the statuette for Best Actress in a Drama Series for Matlock.

Adam Brody earned the accolade for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Nobody Wants This and Shrinking star Michael Urie won the statuette for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder from Hacks won the statuettes for Best Actress and Supporting Actress in a Comedy. The show was also named Best Comedy Series.

The prize presentation was initially scheduled for Jan. 12, then delayed until Jan. 26 and again until Friday due to the recent devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

The show opened with a standing ovation for the first responders in the audience, followed by a montage of this year's awards nominees.

Comedian Chelsea Handler hosted the gala, which aired live on E! and celebrated excellence in TV and film. This is the third time she has emceed the event.

Conclave and Wicked went into the competition with a leading 11 nominations apiece in the movie categories, while Shogun was the most nominated TV series with six nods.

Wicked ended up being shut out of most of the major categories, except for Best Director, which Jon M. Chu took home.
