Amazon Freevee picks up 'American Rust' for second season

June 10 (UPI) -- Amazon Freevee has renewed American Rust for a second season after it was canceled by Showtime.

"We can't wait to bring the next exciting chapter of American Rust to our audience for free. Welcome to the Freevee family!" the network tweeted Thursday.

Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney are returning for the new episodes of the crime drama, which takes place in Pennsylvania. David Alvarez, Bill Camp and Alex Neustaedter aco-star.

Daniels, Dan Futterman and Adam Rapp are executive producers on the adaptation of Philipp Meyer's novel.

"I'm grateful to Amazon Freevee for giving us the chance to make Season 2 of American Rust," Daniels said in a statement.

"Set inside a struggling American small town, our authentic, realistically told story is built for streaming. The movies they don't make anymore are being made as series at places like Amazon Freevee. It's where I want to be."

Freevee is the channel formerly known as IMDB TV.
