May 19 (UPI) -- Popular teen drama Riverdale will end with a seventh and final season.

The CW shared the news in a press release announcing its 2022 fall schedule Thursday.

Riverdale was renewed for Season 7 in March, along with The Flash, All American, Walker and other CW shows.

The series is based on characters from Archie Comics and was developed for television by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Aguirre-Sacasa serves as an executive producer with Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti.

KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Mädchen Amick, Casey Cott, Charles Melton and Vanessa Morgan star.

Riverdale Season 7 will have a midseason premiere in 2023.

News of the show's impending end follows the cancellations of Legends of Tomorrow, Dynasty and The Vampire Diaries and The Originals spinoff Legacies.

Meanwhile, several new series will premiere on The CW in the fall, including the Supernatural prequel spinoff The Winchesters, Professionals and the Walker origin story Walker Independence.

Beginning in the fall, The Winchesters will air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT, followed by Professionals at 9 p.m. Walker will air Thursdays at 8 p.m., followed by Walker Independence at 9 p.m.
