Deadline confirmed Atwell's casting.

The new series is based on the Square Enix action-adventure video game series. The show will take place after the video game reboot trilogy and follow Croft as she explores new territory.

Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Blood Origin, Red Sonja) will write the series and executive produce with Dmitri M. Johnson, Stephan Bugaj and Howard Bliss.

Netflix announced the show and a Skull Island anime series in January.

The Tomb Raider video games were previously adapted into two films starring Angelina Jolie as Croft. Alicia Vikander starred in a 2018 reboot.

Atwell is known for playing Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She most recently played Carter in Avengers: Endgame and voiced the character in the Disney+ series What If...?
