Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Peyton Elizabeth Lee is a doctor at 16-years-old in the new trailer for Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., which is inspired by classic medical series Doogie Howser, M.D.
Lee portrays the title character who gains local attention in Hawaii after saving a man on the beach in the clip released on Friday.
Lee's Lahela Kamealoha is given the nickname Doogie from her co-workers at the hospital she works at due to her similarity to the Doogie Howser, M.D. series.
The young doctor must juggle being a teenager, dating and working a demanding job, alongside her mother who is also a doctor.
Co-stars include Kathleen Rose Perkins, Jason Scott Lee, Matthew Sato, Wes Tian, Emma Meisel, Mapuana Makia and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman. Alex Aiono and Ronny Chieng are recurring stars.
Randall Park, Max Greenfield, Margaret Cho, Al Harrington, Amy Hill, David S. Jung, Jae Suh Park, Ty Simpkins, Kylie Cantrall and Jake Shimabukuro will guest star.
Gina Rodirguez, Park and executive producers Jake Kasdan, Jesse Bochco and Erin O'Malley serve as directors. The series hails from creator and executive producer Kourtney Kang.
Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. is coming to Disney+ on September 8.
