BBC sets 'Weakest Link' revival with new host Romesh Ranganathan

June 28 (UPI) -- BBC One is rebooting game show The Weakest Link with new host Romesh Ranganathan.

The revival series will air during primetime on BBC One and feature celebrity contestants as they answer general knowledge questions in order to support their favorite charities.

The network has ordered 12 episodes of Weakest Link with each installment running 45 minutes. The show will be filmed in Glasgow with the celebrity contestants and premiere date set to be announced at a later date.

BBC launched the original Weakest Link in 2000 with host Anne Robinson. Different versions of the series has aired in over 100 countries across the globe.

The last U.K. installment aired in 2017 and supported charity Children in Need.

Jane Lynch currently hosts a U.S. version of Weakest Link on NBC that was renewed for a second season in January.

"It's an honor to be asked to bring that is basically a TV institution back to our screens. Anne was an amazing host and to step into her shows is an anxiety inducing privilege. I'm hoping we've found a way to make both the fans of the show happy as well as bringing a new audience to it. If not, accept this as my apology," Ranganathan said in a statement.
