'Tehran': Glenn Close to star in Season 2 of Apple TV+ series

June 22 (UPI) -- Glenn Close has joined the cast of Tehran Season 2.

The 74-year-old actress will have a series regular role in the new season of the thriller series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Close will play Marjan Montazeri, a British woman living in Tehran. Close joins series stars Niv Sultan, Shaun Toub and Shervin Alenabi.

Deadline said Close is a big fan of Tehran and expressed interest in the new role, which was created for her.

Tehran is created by Moshe Zonder, Omri Shenhar, Dana Eden, Maor Kohn. The first season followed Tamar Rabinyan (Sultan), a young Mossad agent undercover in Tehran.

Variety said production on Season 2 will begin soon and reportedly film in Greece. Season 2 will air in 2022.

Zonder and Shenhar serve as writers and executive produce with Eden, Daniel Syrkin, Shula Spiegel Alon Aranya, Julien Leroux, Peter Emerson and Eldad Koblenz.

Close most recently starred in the film Hillbilly Elegy. Her most recent series regular TV role was Patricia "Patty" Hewes on Damages.
