June 16 (UPI) -- Samoa Joe made a surprise return to WWE and LA Knight showed his true feelings towards living legend The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase on WWE NXT.
NXT general manager William Regal kicked off the show on Tuesday and got emotional as he reminisced about the yellow and gold brand's early beginnings and how much it has grown.
Regal also spoke about how things have gotten out of hand on NXT with constant backstage assaults.
NXT Champion Karrion Kross interrupted Regal alongside his partner Scarlett and mentioned how the general manager has totally lost control of the roster. Kross yelled at Regal to say he was right and to leave NXT, never to come back.
Joe's music then hit as The Samoan Submission Machine met with Kross face-to-face. Regal then offered Joe to become the new general manager of NXT, but Joe declined.
Joe said he respects Regal and instead offered to become an enforcer. Regal agreed but stated that Joe cannot compete in the ring and can only attack other competitors when provoked.
Joe got right to work early in the night as Regal tried to break up a backstage fight between bitter rivals Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly.
Joe got involved physically after being pushed and made Cole pass out to his signature submission hold, the Coquina Clutch.
Regal, during the chaos, announced that Cole and O'Reilly will have to settle their differences at The Great American Bash on July 6.
Also on WWE NXT, Knight had a coronation ceremony to crown him as the new Million Dollar Champion after he defeated Cameron Grimes in a Ladder match Sunday at TakeOver: In Your House.
Knight spoke about how DiBiase was a hero of his growing up and how it was an honor to be given the Million Dollar Championship.
Knight, after DiBiase placed the title on him, then said he needed to drop what he didn't need and knocked DiBiase to the ground with a hard punch. Knight beat up DiBiase's security team and started to kick the Hall of Famer.
Grimes rushed down to the ring and brawled with Knight, sending him out of the ring.
Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher battled their rivals The Grizzled Young Veterans in a Tornado Tag match in the main event.
The hard fought contest featured Ciampa delivering an Air Raid Crash to Zack Gibson on top of the announcer's table.
Ciampa, back inside the ring, worked with Thatcher to apply an Ankle Lock and Fujiwara Armbar simultaneously on James Drake in order to to win the match.
Other moments from WWE NXT included Breezango defeating Imperium; Imperium assaulting Breezango afterwards; NXT Cruiserweight Champion Kushida successfully defending his title against Trey Baxter; NXT Women's Champion Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai defeating Kayden Carter and Kacy Catanzaro; and Io Shirai and Zoey Stark fighting off NXT Women's Tag Team Champions Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell.
