June 4 (UPI) -- Blumhouse Television and Jamie Lee Curtis' Comet Pictures are developing a scripted drama series based on Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta mystery novels.

Curtis is executive producing the project about an Italian-American, crime-solving forensic pathologist and her team of investigators, but the Halloween icon does not intend to act in it.

"Patricia Cornwell is a bonafide literary trailblazer, and collaborating with her to bring her beloved character Kay Scarpetta to life through the power of television and to introduce her to an entirely new audience is exciting," executive producer Jamie Lee Curtis said in a statement Thursday.

"The confluence of Blumhouse and Comet bringing to life a dark, fun and layered work world and family life, spearheaded by the smart and sexy indomitable Kay Scarpetta is going to be a thrilling ride."

No showrunner or cast have been announced yet.

Autopsy, the 25th book in the series, is set for publication in the fall. The series began with 1990's Postmortem.
