WWE NXT: Adam Cole returns, confronts Karrion Kross

June 2 (UPI) -- Adam Cole returned and stopped a No. 1 contender's match for the NXT Championship on WWE NXT.

Cole, who hasn't been in action in months, interrupted a Triple Threat match between his heated rival Kyle O'Reilly, Johnny Gargano and Pete Dunne on Tuesday. The winner would have gone on to challenge NXT Champion Karrion Kross at NXT TakeOver: In Your House on June 13.

Cole caused the bout to end in a no contest after he suddenly attacked O'Reilly and Dunne with a steel chair outside the ring. Cole then threw the chair into Gargano's face and knocked out the referee before delivering the Last Shot to Gargano.

NXT general manager William Regal came down to the ring with his security team and demanded that Cole exit the premises, which he did after kicking O'Reilly and arguing with Regal.

Cole later called out Kross with the grapplers getting into a war of words.

"This brand has done everything in their power to make you feel special. You got the cool music, you got the lights, the fog machine, the girl. You know what they do to make Adam Cole feel special? They ring the freaking bell," Cole said to Kross, who was joined by his partner Scarlett.

Regal came out again and said Cole wasn't going to weasel his way into a title match, however, Kross demanded that he get to defend the NXT Championship against everyone.

It was then made official that Kross will defend the NXT Championship in a Fatal Five-Way match against Cole, O'Reilly, Gargano and Dunne at TakeOver: In Your House.

Also on NXT, Tag Team Champions Wes Lee and Nash Carter of MSK defended their titles against Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza of Legado del Fantasma. Santos Escobar of Legado del Fantasma watched the action from ringside.

The Grizzled Young Veterans tried to interfere in the match but the duo was thwarted by their rivals Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher.

Escobar, after he got involved in the action by attacking Lee, was stopped by North American Champion Bronson Reed. MSK then won the match by performing their signature Spinebuster-Blockbuster combo on Wilde to retain their titles.

Other moments from WWE NXT included Jake Atlas defeating LA Knight; Cruiserweight Champion Kushida successfully defending his title against Carmelo Hayes; NXT Women's Tag Team Champions Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell of The Way defeating Zoey Stark and Zayda Ramier; and Ember Moon calling out NXT Women's Champion Raquel Gonzalez.

Moon was upset about the way Gonzalez assaulted her tag team partner Shotzi Blackheart last week. Moon gained the upper hand while brawling with Gonzalez until Regal's security team broke up the action.

Gonzalez's tag team partner Dakota Kai then assaulted Moon from behind during the commotion. Gonzalez will defend the NXT Women's Championship against Moon at TakeOver: In Your House.
