Jaren Lewison teases 'Never Have I Ever' Season 2 love triangle

June 1 (UPI) -- Never Have I Ever star Jaren Lewison is teasing the show's Season 2 love triangle.

The 20-year-old actor discussed the love triangle between his character, Ben Gross, Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet) during Monday's episode of A Little Late with Lilly Singh.

Season 1 ended with Ben (Lewison) and Devi (Ramakrishnan) sharing a kiss after Ben helped Devi reconcile with her family. Meanwhile, Devi's original love interest Paxton (Barnet) tried to call her to make up.

On A Little Late, Lewison said the love triangle between Ben, Devi and Paxton will be a big plot point in Season 2.

"You absolutely are gonna see so much about the love triangle and other story lines that are so complex," the star said.

"The love triangle is so exciting for me as an actor. You know, you have competition on the other side," he added. "Like, I'm biased, right? Like, obviously I'm Team Ben."

Lewison said Ben is a good match for Devi but acknowledged his "formidable competition" in Paxton.

"You know, like, Ben matches Devi in so many ways, like the academic rigor. They've got the witty banter. Like, they both have so much together going on," he said. "But also, like, you have a formidable competition. Like, Paxton is this super fit, really charming dude."

Lewison said viewers will "go through some ups and downs within that triangle" in Season 2.

"I'm not gonna say too much. You have to watch to find out. But they will explore the complexities of that blossoming romance, for sure," he said.

Never Have I Ever is created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher. The series follows Devi, a teenager navigating high school in the wake of her father Mohan's (Sendhil Ramamurthy) death.

Common will have a recurring role in Season 2 as Dr. Chris Jackson, a dermatologist who works in the same building as Devi's mother, Nalini Vishwakumar (Poorna Jagannathan).

Season 2 will premiere on Netflix in July.
