May 24 (UPI) -- The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will return to Ed Sullivan Theater in New York in June.

CBS announced Monday that the late-night talk show will return to the theater June 14 with a full, vaccinated audience.

Host Stephen Colbert has been filming the show remotely for more than a year due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Over the last 437 days, my staff and crew (and family!) have amazed me with their professionalism and creativity as we made shows for an audience we couldn't see or hear," Colbert said. "I look forward to once again doing shows for an audience I can smell and touch."

CBS said the decision adheres to state and federal guidelines. Staff and crew members will continue to be tested for COVID-19 on a regular basis and be screened daily for symptoms.

Audience members will be required to show proof of vaccination. Face masks will be optional for attendees.

Fellow late-night programs Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon have already returned to the studio with limited audiences.
