Thede and costars Gabrielle Dennis, Ashley Nicole Black, and other guest stars play various characters in different sketches. Rae has guest starred on episodes herself.

"I can't wait to push the show even further in Season 3," Thede said in a statement. "I see this show as a budding comedy institution, where Black women can play fully realized, non-stereotypical characters."

Season 1 of A Black Lady Sketch Show was nominated for Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series, director Dime Davis and guest star Angela Bassett. Season 2 saw Gabrielle Union, Amber Riley and Yvette Nicole Brown guest star.

The Season 2 finale airs Friday at 11 p.m.
