May 21 (UPI) -- John Krasinski discussed his upcoming film A Quiet Place Part II and what the horror sequel means to him while appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Krasinski, who wrote, directed and stars in the film, said on Thursday that he learned how to combine two elements such as horror and a moving story about a family from Office creator Greg Daniels.
The 41-year-old noted how Daniels showed him the importance in making audiences care about a character.
"I literally thought of him when they said, 'Direct a horror movie.' I was like, 'I don't know how to do a horror movie.' So instead I just did a family drama and trojan-horsed it as a horror movie because I thought you'll be more scared if you fall in love with these characters," he said.
Stephen Colbert, who was joined by his wife Evelyn McGee-Colbert, mentioned a critical moment in the film involving his character's kids, portrayed by Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe.
The Colberts said the scene highlighted how much Krasinski loves his own children Hazel and Violet, who he shares with wife and co-star Emily Blunt.
"As psychotic as it seems when you look at the poster, these movies are a love letter to my kids," Krasinski said.
Krasinski was Stephen Colbert's first in-person guest inside his house after The Late Show went remote due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Stephen Colbert asked Krasinski about his strength and challenged him to an arm-wrestling competition, which the actor won.
A Quiet Place Part II comes to theaters on May 28.
