WWE Raw: Kofi Kingston faces Randy Orton, Bobby Lashley on same night

May 18 (UPI) -- Kofi Kingston of The New Day had a big night on Raw as he took on both Randy Orton and WWE Champion Bobby Lashley on the same night.

Kingston's first bout against Orton on Monday came after The Viper's tag team partner Riddle, tried to get Orton to apologize to the New Day for taking them out with RKO's last week.

Orton refused to apologize, leading to the one-on-one match. Xavier Woods was at ringside along with Riddle.

The Viper was in control until Woods distracted him by playing his trombone known as Francesca. The distraction was enough to allow Kingston to roll up Orton for the surprise pin and win the match. Riddle then got into an argument with The New Day and pushed Woods down to the mat.

Kingston's second bout came after Lashley and his manager MVP issued an open challenge.

The WWE Champion opened the show with a mini celebration after he successfully defended his title against Drew McIntyre and Braun Strowman in a Triple Threat match at WrestleMania Backlash.

Lashley and MVP were surrounded by a group of women and gloated about Lashley's victory until McIntyre interrupted. MVP made it clear to McIntyre that he could not take part in the open challenge. McIntyre was able to land one punch on Lashley, causing him to exit the ring.

Kingston responded to the open challenge in the main event, believing that it was for the WWE Championship. MVP grabbed the microphone and stated that Lashley's title was not on the line right before the bell rang.

The champ used his superior strength to overpower Kingston, but was also briefly distracted by Woods playing his trombone. Kingston was able to land one hit from the distraction but Lashley quickly recovered and slammed the high-flyer hard onto the mat.

Woods continued to get involved in the match, leading to the referee banning him from ringside. MVP, during the commotion, got ready to hit Kingston with his cane until McIntyre came from behind and grabbed the cane himself.

The Scottish Warrior then hit Lashley with the cane, which allowed Kingston to roll him up for the three count. The New Day celebrated Kingston's big win with McIntyre on the entrance ramp as Raw went off the air.

Also on Raw, Alexa Bliss and her doll Lilly interviewed newly crowned Women's Tag Team Champions Natalya and Tamina on her show, Alexa's Playground.

Tamina was not into Bliss' creepy demeanor and left the interview early with Natalya. Bliss mentioned how she would be watching closely the duo's rematch against Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler.

Jax and Baszler were accompanied to the ring by sommelier Reginald. Bliss started to view the match from the entrance ramp as Reginald got ready to help Baszler.

Flames then suddenly erupted from the ring posts, blinding Reginald who fell to the ringside area. Tamina and Natalya performed the Heart Attack on Baszler as she headed towards Reginald, which allowed them to win the match and retain the Women's Tag Team Championships.

Other moments from Raw included Raw Tag Team Champion AJ Styles defeating Elias via disqualification; Angel Garza defeating Drew Gulak; United States Champion Sheamus defeating Ricochet; Asuka defeating Charlotte Flair following a distraction by Raw Women's Champion Rhea Ripley; and Damian Priest defeating John Morrison in a Lumberjack match.
