'RuPaul's Drag Race' is top winner at MTV Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted

May 18 (UPI) -- RuPaul's Drag Race took home a leading three awards at the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted, which honored excellence in reality television.

The event, hosted by Nikki Glaser, took place at the Palladium in Los Angeles on Monday, following day one of the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday.


RuPaul's Drag Race won Best Reality Cast, Best Competition Series and Best Host for RuPaul, who surprised Season 13 contestants Symone and Gottmik onstage.

"I've got to say you two are a perfect example of why our casting is so great. You're two of the greatest cast members we have ever had on our little show," RuPaul said after sneaking up behind Symone and Gottmik as they accepted the award for Best Reality Cast. RuPaul was joined by Michelle Visage who asked viewers to support their local queens.

Jersey Shore Family Vacation won Best Docu-Reality Show and was honored with the Reality Royalty lifetime achievement award.

MTV also presented new footage of Jersey Shore Family Vacation Season 4, which arrives on June 3. The clip featured the show's cast surprising Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino at home in order to celebrate his sobriety.

The Bachelorette won Best Dating Show, Nailed It! won Best Lifestyle Show, Selena + Chef won Best New Unscripted Series, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah won Best Talk/Topical Show, Impractical Jokers won Best Comedy/Game Show, Bretman Rock won Breakthrough Social Star, Catfish won Best Real-Life Mystery or Crime Series, Kourtney Kardashian vs. Kim Kardashian won Best Fight and ITV's Love Island won Best International Reality Series.

Day one of the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards saw WandaVision win Best Show and To All the Boys: Always and Forever winning Best Movie. Sacha Baron Cohen and Scarlett Johansson were also honored.
