Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Netflix is giving a glimpse of Michelle Monaghan in the new series Messiah.
The streaming service released a first trailer Tuesday featuring Monaghan, 43, as Eva Geller, a CIA officer tasked with investigating a mysterious "miracle man."
The preview shows Geller (Monaghan) and Avrim Dahan (Tomer Sisley), an Israeli intelligence officer, seek answers about Al Massih (Mehdi Dehbi), a charismatic spiritual leader who claims to be the Messiah.
"He's come out of nowhere, and we don't know who he is," Geller says. "He's leading desperate people. We don't know who he's associated with. He could be creating an army, or he could be leading them to their death."
Netflix also shared first look photos Tuesday on Twitter featuring Monaghan and Dehbi.
"Michelle Monaghan stars in @MessiahNetflix, a provocative, geo-political thriller about a CIA officer's quest to uncover the truth about a mysterious man (Mehdi Dehbi) who begins to cultivate followers who allege he's performing miracles," the post reads.
Messiah is created by Michael Petroni and co-stars John Ortiz, Melinda Page Hamilton and Stefania LaVie Owen. The series premieres Jan. 1, New Year's Day.
