July 29 (UPI) -- Laverne Cox thinks Pose's transgender stars deserved to be nominated for Emmys.
The 47-year-old actress explained during Sunday's episode of Watch What Happens Live why she's "overjoyed" but "disappointed" about the FX show's nominations.
Pose is nominated for six awards at the 2019 Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Billy Porter, a cisgender actor. None of its five transgender series regulars -- MJ Rodriguez, Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore, Hailie Sahar and Angelica Ross -- were nominated for acting awards.
"I am obsessed with Pose. I love the show so much. I have so many friends on Pose. I was overjoyed," Cox said of the show's nominations.
"I was disappointed though, because at this point I'm still the only transgender actor to ever be nominated for an acting Emmy," she added. "I thought this year -- I literally said to MJ, 'I don't think I'm going to be the only one anymore.' And then MJ didn't get nominated; none of the actors from the show got nominated."
Cox is up for her third Emmy for her role as Sophia Burset on the Netflix series Orange is the New Black.
"I'm so grateful for my third nomination, but I think it's time for other trans actors," she said. "There's so many trans actors on TV now who are killing it, just brilliant, and so many on that show are killing it. I'm excited that the show's nominated but I'm like, more!"
Pose, created by Ryan Murphy, centers on the African-American and Latino LGBT ballroom culture scene in New York in the 1980s and 1990s. The series was renewed in June for a third season.
