May 28 (UPI) -- Gavin & Stacey creators and stars James Corden and Ruth Jones will return in a new Christmas special.

The BBC confirmed in a press release Tuesday the 40-year-old television personality and 52-year-old actress will star with Mathew Horne and Joanna Page in a one-off special Dec. 25 on BBC One.

Gavin & Stacey aired for three seasons and a Christmas special on BBC Three and BBC One from 2007 to 2010. The show follows Gavin (Horne) and Stacey (Page), who begin in a long-distance relationship, and their friends and family, including Smithy (Corden) and Nessa (Jones).

"Over the last ten years we've talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey - where they might be today and what their lives might look like. And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special," Corden and Jones said in a statement.

"We've loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy. We're so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas," the pair added.

Fulwell 73, Tidy Productions and Baby Cow Production will produce the special, with Corden, Jones, David Peet, Leo Pearlman and Ben Winston as executive producers.

"Everyone at the BBC is hugely excited to be welcoming back Gavin and Stacey to BBC One this Christmas. We can't wait to see what's happened to everyone over the last nine years, and what's next for one of the nation's favorite comedy families," BBC content director Charlotte Moore said.
