Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Kate Gosselin says starring on her own dating show was an "exciting" and "awkward" experience.

The 43-year-old television personality and her 18-year-old twin daughters, Cara and Mady, discussed her new TLC series, Kate Plus Date, Tuesday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

"I knew what I wasn't looking for, but I couldn't articulate what I was looking for," Gosselin said, according to USA Today. "They were strictly blind dates, but I didn't even know, really, their names, until minutes before."

"A lot of the awkwardness, uncomfortable terrified reactions came from the fact that they were hit or miss," she added. "It's a very difficult concept, and this is a very real show in that I am really looking for someone."

Kate Plus Date follows Gosselin as she looks for love in New York. The mom-of-eight goes on a series of dates set up by matchmakers.

"I love to date on TV -- the safety it provides -- but I didn't realize how awkward I'd feel," she said. "It's hard to watch, exciting, awkward, fun and really rewarding."

Gosselin is parent to eight children -- Cara, Mady and 14-year-old sextuplets Aaden, Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Joel and Leah -- with ex-husband Jon Gosselin, from whom she split in 2009. Cara and Mady said they support their mom's decision to start dating again.

"We've been nudging her to date for years," Mady said, according to E! News. "We're all, all eight of us, are so glad that she finally is."

"She deserves to be happy. Everyone deserves to be happy," she added.

Kate Plus Date premieres in June.
