Nov. 30 (UPI) -- The Girl in the Spider's Web and The Affair actor Claes Bang is to star in the BBC/Netflix miniseries Dracula.
The adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic vampire novel was written and executive produced by Sherlock collaborators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.
Filming on the three feature-length episodes is to begin next year. The show will retain the book's late 19th century setting.
"I'm so excited that I get to dig in to this iconic and super-interesting character. Yes, he's evil, but there's also so much more to him, he's charismatic, intelligent, witty and sexy. I realize that there's a lot to live up to with all the amazing people that have played him over the years, but I feel so privileged, to be taking on this incredible character," Bang said in a statement.
The project was first announced in June 2017, but no casting had been revealed until now. The miniseries is to air on the BBC in the United Kingdom and on Netflix elsewhere.
