Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons is to guest star on the Hulu revival of the mystery dramedy, Veronica Mars.
"We had a lot of #PartyDown guest stars we loved, but maybe none more than J.K. "So nice we used him twice" Simmons. #VeronicaMars," showrunner Rob Thomas tweeted Thursday.
Simmons will play Clyde Prickett, an ex-con who served 10 years for racketeering and is now working as a fixer for real-estate developer Dick Casablancas, played by David Starzyk, EW.com reported.
Thomas shared a photo this week of the first table reading for the new Veronica Mars, which is expected to start streaming next year.
Gathered for the snapshot in what appears to be a conference room are Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Patton Oswalt, Clifton Collins, Jr., Dawnn Lewis, Percy Daggs III, Daran Norris, Enrico Colantoni, Izabela Vidovic and David Starzyk.
The sequel series was announced in September.
Veronica Mars -- which follows a witty and resourceful private detective played by Bell -- initially ran for three seasons 2004-07. A crowdfunded film was released in 2014.
"Spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town's lifeblood tourist industry," Hulu previously teased the storyline for the next chapter. "After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son's killer, Veronica is drawn into an epic eight-episode mystery that pits the enclave's wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast's answer to Daytona Beach."
