"NBC is thrilled to be the home of this year's Emmy Awards and with Colin and Michael in the driver's seat as hosts, along with surprise appearances by other cast members of Saturday Night Live, I think we are in for one of the funniest awards shows in a long time," Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in April when Che and Jost were announced as emcees.

Che described on Instagram Stories Saturday his mindset in the leadup to Monday's big event.

"Worst case scenario, you don't like a joke. That's it. Thats all that can happen," he said. "Of the thousands of jokes being told on TV at any given time, you might not like 12 we tell. That's the absolute worst case scenario."
