June 29 (UPI) -- Season 8 of the anthology series American Horror Story is to premiere on FX Sept. 12.

"Not long now," the show's Twitter feed said Thursday. The post included a graphic announcing the long-running drama's return date.

Season 8 is expected to be a Murder House/Coven crossover event, featuring characters from the first and third seasons of the supernatural series.

Show co-creator Ryan Murphy said in April that next season would take place in the near future and would star Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Eichner, Adina Porter, Leslie Grossman and Kathy Bates.

Emma Roberts said this month she plans to reprise her Coven character Madison Montgomery, as well.

Paulson and Peters are each also scheduled to direct an episode of Season 8.
