WWE Raw: Tensions rise between Reigns and Lashley

By Wade Sheridan

June 26 (UPI) -- Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley continued to get under each other's skin Monday on Raw as the two competitors argued who should be allowed to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.

Reigns and Lashley kicked off Raw with a war of words that took place with general manager Kurt Angle and Constable Baron Corbin present in the ring.

The Big Dog made the debate personal when he brought up how Lashley was a former main eventing WWE star who left the company to pursue an MMA career but was less successful. Lashley, meanwhile, pointed out how Reigns had three years and multiple chances to dethrone Lesnar and has failed every time.

Angle, as tensions reached a boiling point, announced that due to a contract dispute with Lesnar, last week's announced multi-man match to determine The Beast's opponent at Extreme Rules would have to be canceled. Angle then offered that perhaps Reigns could face off against Lashley on July 15 at the pay-per-view event before the group was interrupted by The Revival.

The Revival, upset about their loss against Reigns and Lashley last week, were granted a rematch against the two heavyweights which took place immediately.

The Revival were more successful this week, however, as Reigns and Lashley, despite being in control of the match, argued about who would get to end the bout. As Reigns tagged himself in without Lashley's consent, Revival member Scott Dawson charged in and took out Lashley before Reigns delivered a Spear. It was then that Revival member Dash Wilder grabbed Reigns from behind for a successful pin attempt and the upset victory.

In the main event, new Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler defended his title against Seth Rollins in a rematch from last week when The Showoff had ended Rollins' run as champion.

The highly-competitive match featured both men putting it all on the line with Ziggler unable to put the The Kingslayer down despite perfectly striking with his Zig Zag finishing maneuver. Rollins would recover and later deliver an impressive Superplex followed by a Falcon Arrow and pin Ziggler before the champ's partner, Drew McIntyre, emerged from the locker room and pulled the referee out of the ring.

This caused the match to end in a disqualification while McIntyre and Ziggler attacked Rollins inside the ring. Reigns then suddenly arrived on the scene to aid his former Shield brother. Reigns would Spear Ziggler on the entrance ramp and then send McIntyre out of the ring with a Superman Punch as Raw went off the air.

Other moments from Raw included Curtis Axel of the B-Team defeating Tag Team Champion Woken Matt Hardy; The Authors of Pain defeating Rich and Rex Gibson; Natalya defeating Raw Women's Champion Alexa Bliss; The Riott Squad defeating Sasha Banks, Bayley and Ember Moon which led to Bayley attacking Banks afterwards; MoJo Rawley refusing to face No Way Jose; and Braun Strowman and Kevin Owens defeating Finn Balor and Baron Corbin via count-out with Strowman later flipping over Owens' car in the parking lot.
