June 10 (UPI) -- TBS will not proceed as planned on a third season of its comedy People of Earth.

"Just got word last night: TBS has canceled People of Earth. Thank you to everyone who was a fan of the show and enjoyed its gentle, amiable sci-fi weirdness. It was an honor sharing this show with you. Let's do it again soon. Love you all," show creator David Jenkins tweeted Friday.

The Hollywood Reporter said the cable network renewed the low-rated show for a third season in September and fresh episodes had already been written by the time TBS reversed its decision and canceled it.

EW.com said network representatives did not immediately respond to its request for comment on the decision.

Starring Wyatt Cenac, Ana Gasteyer, Luka Jones, Brian Huskey and Alice Wetterlund, the series is about a journalist investigating a support group for alien abductees in upstate New York. Conan O'Brien and Greg Daniels were among the show's executive producers.
