WWE Smackdown: Styles, Nakamura sign title match contract

By Wade Sheridan

June 6 (UPI) -- The upcoming Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship between AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura was made official Tuesday on Smackdown Live during a heated contract signing.

Smackdown general manager Paige presided over the courtroom-like proceedings which featured WWE personnel on hand in case things got out of control between the two rivals.

Defending WWE Champion Styles signed the contract first, but promised Nakamura to his face that there was no way he would ever defeat him.

Nakamura, in continuing to play his mind games, pretended that his pen didn't work before he flung it at The Phenomenal One. This enraged Styles who quickly stood up and slapped Nakamura across the face before he was escorted out.

"Last. Man. Standing," Nakamura said slyly after signing the contract. Styles defends his WWE Championship against Nakamura in a Last Man Standing Match at Money in the Bank on June 17. A Last Man Standing Match is won by making your opponent unable to stand after the count of ten.

Also on Smackdown, Men's Money in the Bank Ladder Match participants The Miz, Rusev and Samoa Joe took on The New Day who will also be competing for the Money in the Bank briefcase with one of their members, Big E, Kofi Kingston or Xavier Woods.

The Miz, Rusev and Joe held their own against the team-oriented New Day and appeared poised to win the match after Joe took out woods with the Coquina Clutch and Rusev knocked out Kingston with a Machka Kick.

The Miz, wanting to send a message, however, found himself in trouble when he tried to throw The New Day's tray of ringside pancakes at Big E but hit Rusev and Joe with them on accident.

Rusev and Joe retaliated against The Miz for the mistake, taking him out and leaving the ring before The New Day delivered The Midnight Hour to the A-lister for the three count.

Other moments from Smackdown included Asuka defeating Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, Karl Anderson defeating Smackdown Tag Team Champion Harper, Big Cass verbally attacking Daniel Bryan ahead of their match at Money in the Bank and Becky Lynch defeating Charlotte Flair.
