WWE Raw: Reigns, Rollins team up

By Wade Sheridan

June 5 (UPI) -- Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins found him himself up against Elias and Jinder Mahal to kick off Raw Monday before he was saved by his former Shield brother Roman Reigns.

Rollins started the evening by interrupting a concert by Elias following the events of last week when The Sinister Songsmith smashed his guitar against the back of Rollins after his match with Mahal.

After Mahal came to Elias' aid, Reigns came out and was able to overpower both men who quickly retreated. Raw general manager Kurt Angle set up a Tag Team Match between the rivals which started immediately.

The competitive bout began to break down once Mahal's henchman Sunil Singh got involved with a chair, giving The Modern Day Maharaja the chance to toss Reigns out into the audience. The chair ended up in the ring where Elias planted Rollins with a DDT onto the steel object. Elias then picked up the depleted Rollins and delivered the Drift Away for the three count and surprise victory.

Reigns and Mahal would meet again later in the night backstage after an interview segment between the pair broke down into a violent brawl. WWE officials quickly arrived to stop the fight as both men looked on in anger.

Reigns is set to face Mahal at Money in the Bank on June 17 which will also include Rollins defending his Intercontinental Championship against Elias.

Also on Raw, Ronda Rousey's friend and training partner Natalya took on Raw Women's Champion Nia Jax.

Natalya, despite putting up a good fight, tweaked her knee during the bout which Jax took advantage of right away by delivering a Samoan Drop for the three count. Rousey, who was providing guest commentary, then rushed down to the ring to check on her injured friend.

Jax, after realizing that Natalya was hurt, wanted to check on her too before she was waved off by Rousey who appeared annoyed by the champions presence. After repeated attempts by Jax to check on Natalya, Rousey got in her face and stared her down menacingly before she exited the ring with her friend.

In the main event, Finn Balor took on Kevin Owens in a singles match that ended in a disqualification.

Owens was the one disqualified after he wouldn't stop kicking Balor in the corner as he continually attacked his opponents arm. Owens, after delivering a Frog Splash, grabbed a ladder and decided to climb it in order to grab the hanging Money in the Bank briefcase in celebration.

Owens, noticing a knocked out Balor on the floor, contemplated performing a Frog Splash off the ladder but waited too long as The Extraordinary Man quickly rose to his feet and brought Owens back down the mat.

Balor climbed the ladder himself and delivered the Coup de Grace from near the top. He then grabbed the Money in the Bank briefcase to celebrate. Both Owens and Balor will be be featured in the Mens Money in the Bank Match.

Other moments from Raw included Curt Hawkins receiving his 200th consecutive loss to local talent James Harden due to interference by Baron Corbin; Braun Strowman defeating Bobby Roode; The B-Team consisting of Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas winning a Tag Team Battle Royal to earn a title shot against Woken Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt; Sami Zayn confronting Bobby Lashley; The Riott Squad defeating Sasha Banks, Ember Moon and Bayley vis disqualification; and Big Show introducing the Special Olympics athletes of Team Texas.
