WWE Smackdown: Bryan faces Hardy

May 23 (UPI) -- Daniel Bryan battled United States Champion Jeff Hardy for the first time ever Tuesday on Smackdown Live for an opportunity to be placed in a second Money in the Bank qualifying match against Samoa Joe.

The main event of the night, Bryan was able to endure a number of Hardy's signature maneuvers including the Twist of Fate with the Yes Man blocking the high-flyers subsequent Swanton Bomb by using his knees.

Bryan blocked a second Twist of Fate and then took down Hardy to place him into the Heel Hook which earned him a submission victory.

Joe, who was providing guest commentary at ringside, quickly entered the ring and ended Bryan's victory celebration by getting into his face. Bryan will now to get face Joe next week with the winner being placed into the Men's Money in the Bank Match that is set to take place on June 17.

Also on Smackdown, Shinsuke Nakamura got ready to announce the stipulation for his upcoming title match against WWE Champion AJ Styles at Money in the Bank. Nakamura earned the right to name the match-type last week when he defeated The Phenomenal One.

Nakamura, after joking that the match would be a pillow fight, attempted to punch Styles which led to a brawl that ended up outside the ring. Styles, after fighting with his rival through the audience, attempted to land a Phenomenal Forearm before he was hit with a steel chair.

Nakamura then delivered a Kinshasa and counted to ten, announcing afterwards that he will be facing Styles in a Last Man Standing Match.

Other moments from Smackdown Live included The Miz defeating Big E after featuring The New Day on Miz TV; Lana defeating Billie Kay to qualify for the Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match with help from Aiden English; Andrade 'Cien' Almas defeating a local competitor; Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson defeating The Usos to earn a Tag Team Champion match against The Bludgeon Brothers; and Naomi defeating Sonya Deville to qualify for the Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
