WWE Smackdown: Bryan, Rusev battle for Money in the Bank spot

By Wade Sheridan

May 9 (UPI) -- WWE Superstars continued to compete for the chance to be in the upcoming Money in the Bank Ladder Match Tuesday on Smackdown, including Daniel Bryan and Rusev.

The main event of the night, Bryan and Rusev put it all on the line in a highly-competitive match that could have gone either way.

Bryan, still nursing injuries from when he was attacked by Big Cass at Backlash after he defeated the seven-footer, was unable to deliver his Running Knee finishing move thanks in part to Rusev's personal singer Aiden English who was able to move Rusev out of the way.

Bryan, after disposing of English, got ready to use his Running Knee again, however, Rusev was able to reverse it and hit The Yes Man's injured ribs. Rusev then struck Bryan with the Machka Kick for the victory.

Also on Smackdown, The Miz took on United States Champion Jeff Hardy for entry into the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

Hardy was dominating the bout towards the end and seemed poised to win when he used the Twist of Fate on the A-Lister followed by his high-flying Swanton Bomb. Hardy then went for the cover and as the referee counted to 2, The Miz suddenly reversed the pin and delivered his own for the three count.

The Miz, following the victory, quickly moved out the ring and was seen smiling on the outside at what he had just accomplished. The men's Money in the Bank Ladder match now includes The Miz and Rusev from Smackdown along with Braun Strowman and Finn Balor from Raw.

The annual Money in the Bank Ladder Match grants the winner a briefcase which contains a contract that guarantees a world championship match anytime, anywhere.

Other moments from Smackdown included Cesaro defeating Xavier Woods; Mandy Rose defeating Becky Lynch; and Charlotte Flair defeating Peyton Royce to be entered into the women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
