TNT cancels 'The Librarians' after four seasons

March 9 (UPI) -- The Librarians producer Dean Devlin has announced via Twitter the cancellation of his fantasy-adventure series after four seasons on TNT.

"Just got the official call. TNT has cancelled #TheLibrarians -- I will immediately begin the process of trying to move the show elsewhere. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!" Devlin tweeted Thursday.

"To all who watched and cared and supported. Thank you. It was a privilege to be part of the show," cast member John Larroquette wrote in his own post.

Co-star Lindy Booth chimed in: "Sad news guys... we are all just as devastated as the fans. here's hoping it's not the end, but if it is...thank you all for four amazing years!"

"Heartbreaking news for #TheLibrarians fans, but rest assured @Dean_Devlin will leave no stone unturned to find a new home home for The Annex. He is the King of the Impossible," writer-producer John Rogers added in his own Twitter message. "Regardless congratulations to cast & crew for 4 great seasons so far. It was an honor to work with you."

Deadline.com said low ratings and the network's move toward darker dramas such as The Alienist, Good Behavior and Animal Kingdom are to blame for the cancellation.

The Librarians also stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane and John Harlan Kim. It follows a group of bookish heroes who protect historic and mythological objects from around the world. The show is a spinoff a small-screen movie franchise that dates back to 2004. Noah Wyle starred in the films and plays a recurring role on the TV series.
