Reese Witherspoon meets Olympian Adam Rippon: 'This is meant to be'

March 8 (UPI) -- Reese Witherspoon met with Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon on The Late Show after the pair had shared admiration for each each on social media.

Host Stephen Colbert surprised the actress and brought out Rippon after sharing how the A Wrinkle in Time star previously said on Twitter that the athlete was the number one reason to watch the Winter Olympics.

"This is meant to be," Witherspoon said after embracing Rippon and sitting next to him. "This is the relationship the world's been waiting for."

Rippon then gave Witherspoon his bronze medal and explained he was suffering from a minor wardrobe malfunction. "I really needed this today," he said of meeting Witherspoon. "Before I got here today my life was in shambles. I was getting dressed because I wanted to look my best for you, and I lost a button."

Rippon then spread open his shirt. "I'm embarrassed, but I'm not," he continued. "Do you know what I mean?"

Rippon said he first fell in love with Witherspoon after seeing Legally Blonde and Witherspoon said she memorized a tweet the skater previously posted where he referred to himself as a "glamazon bitch ready for the runway."
