Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Ash vs. Evil Dead star Ray Santiago says he is as eager as fans are for his character Pablo to couple up with Dana DeLorenzo's Kelly. A teaser for Season 3 of the horror comedy shows a brief glimpse of the friends in a lip-lock.

"Everything you don't think will happen, this season, happens," Santiago, 33, teased reporters during a recent roundtable interview at New York Comic Con. "Now, I would invite you to look at how our show loves to [play with perception]... Anything could happen. That could be a dream, that could be reality, but the 'Will they? Won't they?' -- I have to say -- has driven me crazy for the past three years and I have often really, really pushed for it. ... You have to wait and see. ... I think it is going to go farther than you actually imagine."
Season 3 of Ash vs. Evil Dead, which is to premiere on Starz Sunday, will also see the additions of new characters played by Arielle Carver-O'Neill and Lindsay Farris.
Asked by UPI how that will change the dynamic of the show's core team of demon-fighters, Bronx-born Santiago said: "We now have two, new, hot people on our show, none of which should be trusted. Because, as we've come to learn on our show, NO ONE can be trusted because they can start out good and turn bad or be bad and turn good. You just never know. They can die, come back...
"But, yes, this season we do definitely explore the 'Will they? Won't they?' situation in a way where jealousy comes in. There is somebody that Pablo does not trust, which is [Farris' character] Dalton and there's a new girl around, so Pablo's definitely looking at her and something that we also will explore is what if Pablo is into Ash's daughter [Brandy, played by Carver-O'Neill]? And how does that affect the dynamic of trying to pursue the Jefe's daughter? And how does he feel about that? And how does she feel about maybe falling for Pablo and having to tell the Jefe she likes him? Or even Kelly for that matter? When we are all under the same household."
The series features Bruce Campbell reprising his iconic role of the chainsaw-armed, world-saver Ash from the Evil Dead film franchise. Pablo, who has always idolized Ash, even when they worked together with Kelly in a discount store years ago, refers to Ash affectionately throughout the series as Jefe, the Spanish word for boss or chief.
Season 2 ended with the team of self-declared ghostbeaters vanquishing their foe and settling down to live in peace in Ash's hometown of Elk Grove.
DeLorenzo, speaking to UPI in a separate interview, said she and Santiago are enjoying the fact that Brandy and Dalton "took over the role of being the new kids" for Season 3 of the show.
"And what does that mean on the Evil Dead? They're going to get tortured and they're going to get covered [in fake blood,]" the 35-year-old Ohio native said with a laugh.
Given that Ash has always been like a father figure to his sidekicks, DeLorenzo admitted Kelly has mixed feelings when Brandy -- the real daughter no one knew Ash had -- arrives on the scene.
"First of all, Ash a dad? Oh, my God, help us all! Poor thing! I don't know who I feel more sorry for! Is it Brandy or Ash? Because, sins of the father. But what I love is that Kelly is not having it right away and she gets stuck with Brandy. And I do mean that because she's like: 'Oh, great! I've got to do the babysitting duties? Come on! I'm the one with the ideas! Let me go! Let me go!'" the actress explained, adding it is Kelly who ultimately convinces Brandy to give Ash a chance.
"Kelly gets to take Brandy under her wing. ... She starts seeing herself in Brandy."
DeLorenzo went on to confirm Pablo and Kelly's close relationship will be threatened by the introduction of Dalton.
"Now, all of a sudden, here's this guy who is like: 'Hey, Kelly, I met you. I'm with you. Let's go find the fight. I'm from a mythology of knights of Sumeria. There IS evil coming. This guy Ash Williams is foretold in a book. I believe you. Let's go find the fight.' And Kelly is like, 'Finally!' Because Ash and Pablo are selling fish and chips in their hardware store! And Kelly just wants to stay in the fight against evil. So, they link up and he starts putting these seeds of doubt in her mind about Pablo. . ."
"At the very end of the day, what really the effect is, is that the stakes are raised because now this season is about family. The family that is bound by blood and the family that is bound by bloodshed. ... When you raise those stakes, anything can happen. And it might not be good. It probably won't be good."
