Feb. 21 (UPI) -- The Walking Dead star Lauren Cohan has joined the cast of a new ABC pilot.

The 36-year-old actress will star in the action-dramedy Whiskey Cavalier with Scandal actor Scott Foley, an ABC rep confirmed Tuesday to TVLine.

Cohan will play Francesca "Frankie" Trowbridge, a "quick and cunning" CIA operative who is assigned to work with Will Chase (Foley), an FBI agent reeling from an "emotional breakup." The pair team up to lead an inter-agency team of spies.

The new pilot leaves Cohan's future as Maggie Greene on The Walking Dead uncertain. The actress' contract reportedly expires after Season 8, which ends April 15 on AMC.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter Cohan has been negotiating with AMC over her potential Season 9 salary. She is reportedly "not happy" with the network's offers thus far, although she is not seeking parity with co-stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus.

Deadline reported Cohan may return to The Walking Dead on a recurring basis if her talks with AMC are successful. Sources said the show's production schedule "would not interfere" with Whiskey Cavalier.
